2012年 11月15日，新当选的中共中央总书记习近平在中外记者见面会上对中国人民许下承诺。
习近平总书记曾是陕西省延安市梁家河村的一名知青，早年深入基层的工作经历，使他目睹百姓艰难，更能体会群众疾苦。
中国农村的贫困状况给习近平留下刻骨铭心的记忆。
2015年9月，习近平主席出访美国，他在华盛顿州西雅图市发表演讲，坦陈自己40多年前的心愿就是让乡亲们饱餐一顿肉，并且经常吃上肉。
40多年来，他先后在中国的县、市、省、中央工作，扶贫始终是他工作的一个重要内容，花的精力也最多。
让几千万农村贫困人口生活好起来，是习近平始终最牵挂的事。
如今，他几十年前的朴素心愿已经实现。
在即将迎来中国共产党成立一百周年的时刻，中国的脱贫事业取得了历史性成就，现行标准下9899万农村贫困人口全部脱贫，832个贫困县全部摘帽，12.8万个贫困村全部出列，区域性整体贫困得到解决，完成了消除绝对贫困的艰巨任务。
经过中国共产党和中国人民的接续奋斗，中国已经完成全面建成小康社会的历史性任务。
这是中华民族实现伟大复兴征程中一个重要的里程碑。
除此之外，中国共产党还有一个关于“一百年”的重要目标，就是到新中国成立一百年时，把中国建设成为社会主义现代化国家。
毛泽东是最早展望新中国成立一百年远景的人。
之后邓小平又提出了到21世纪中叶，把中国建设成为富强、民主、文明的社会主义现代化国家“三步走”的战略设想。
在党的十九大报告中，习近平进一步提出从二〇三五年到本世纪中叶，在基本实现现代化的基础上，再奋斗十五年，把中国建成富强民主文明和谐美丽的社会主义现代化强国。
到那时，中国物质文明、政治文明、精神文明、社会文明、生态文明将全面提升，实现国家治理体系和治理能力现代化，成为综合国力和国际影响力领先的国家，全体人民共同富裕基本实现，中国人民将享有更加幸福安康的生活。
对中国共产党而言，实现中华民族伟大复兴，是一场接力跑，要一棒一棒地跑下去。
习近平曾表示，历史的接力棒传到了我们手里，我们一定不负重托，忠于党、忠于祖国、忠于人民，以自己的最大智慧、力量、心血，做出无愧于历史、无愧于时代、无愧于人民的业绩。
2021年是中国共产党成立一百周年，也是“十四五”开局之年，中国共产党将带领人民乘势而上开启全面建设社会主义现代化国家新征程，向第二个百年奋斗目标进军。
中国人民具有坚如磐石的信心、只争朝夕的劲头、坚韧不拔的毅力，他们决心要把这项事业不断推向前进。

OnNov. 15, 2012, Xi Jinping, the newly elected General Secretary of the CommunistParty of China (CPC) Central Committee, made such a commitment to the Chinesepeople at a press conference.
GeneralSecretary Xi was once an educated youth in Liangjiahe village in Yan'an ofShaanxi Province. During those years, he witnessed and experienced the hardlife there, which made him understand people's needs.
Thepoverty in China's rural areas at that time has left a deep impression on Xi.
InSeptember 2015, President Xi visited the United States and delivered a speechin Seattle, Washington State. He said that one thing he wished most over 40years ago was to make it possible for the villagers to have meat and have itoften.
Overthe past 40-plus years, he has worked in the government at all levels, and hasalways put poverty alleviation at the top of his work agenda and devoted muchof his energy to it.
Hehas always been committed to making tens of millions of rural residents livingin poverty earn a better life.
Now,his wish decades ago has come true.
Onthe occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, China hasmade a historic achievement in poverty alleviation.The 98.99 million ruralpeople living below the current poverty threshold have shaken off poverty;allthe 832 poor counties and 128,000impoverished villages have been lifted out ofpoverty. China has eliminated poverty over entire regions and eradicatedextreme poverty.
Withthe continuous efforts of the CPC and the Chinese people, China has realizedthe goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Itis an important milestone of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Besides,the CPC also set a centenary goal of developing China into a modern socialistcountry.
MaoZedong was the first person to set the centenary vision since the founding ofthe new China.
DengXiaoping put forward the strategic plan of developing China into a prosperous,strong, democratic, and culturally advanced modern socialist country by the middleof the 21st century.
Inhis report to the 19th National Congress of the CPC, Xi Jinping proposed thatfrom 2035 to the middle of the 21st century, we will, building on havingbasically achieved modernization, work hard for a further 15 years and developChina into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong,democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful.
Bythen, the following goals will have been met: new heights are reached in everydimension of material, political, cultural and ethical, social, and ecologicaladvancement;modernization of China's system and capacity for governance isachieved; China has become a global leader in terms of composite nationalstrength and international influence; common prosperity for everyone isbasically achieved; the Chinese people enjoy happier, safer, and healthierlives.
Forthe CPC, achieving national rejuvenation is like a relay race, in which thebaton is passed on from generation to generation.
Xionce said that the baton is right in our hands, and we need to shoulder ourresponsibilities and be loyal to the Party, the country and the people. Weshould contribute our wisdom and strength and be committed to making newachievements worthy of the times, history and the people with our best efforts.
Theyear 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and also thestarting year of the "14th five-year plan." The CPC will lead thepeople to embark on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in anall-round way and strive for achieving the second centenary goal.
TheChinese people are highly determined to carry forward this undertaking withconfidence, diligence and perseverance.
